Although Marie LeNôtre’s life didn’t follow the path her mother imagined―Marie as a beautiful, blonde actress in Hollywood―it did find a path that led her to an extraordinary and fulfilling life. As an accomplished student with an array of degrees, Marie is the founder and director of the renowned Culinary Institute LeNôtre. In Appetites she shares her childhood dreams and adolescent struggles, the pains and joys of love in France, and the way she made the famous culinary name of LeNôtre her own―and helped spread it across the globe.
Appetites begins with two story lines―the early life of Marie and that of her husband Alain―that meld into one: the story of Marie and Alain together in Houston and the birth of their Culinary Institute. Marie’s story traces her journey through Greece and France, and finally settles in the US, weaving her personal and professional struggles together.
Marie writes passionately about difficulties in establishing the school, its eventual success, and the joy she finds in working with the students. Her memoir provides fascinating insight into the LeNôtre Empire, a heartwarming love story, and a reflection on life’s spiritual journey.

Review
With notable candor Marie LeNôtre shares her life as a starlet in the Greek movie industry, her marriage into the LeNôtre dynasty in Paris, and the challenges she and her husband Alain have faced. Her story reminds us that love is challenging, no matter how beautiful the surface of a life may look. Marie has hungered for meaning since childhood; what she has learned about forgiveness, helping others, and the peace these important acts of grace have brought her prove that with faith and perseverance, all our appetites can be satiated in nourishing, wonderful ways. (Donald Nesti, CSSp, Founder and Director of Faith and Culture at Saint Thomas University, Past President of Duquesne University)
Houston’s restaurant scene has been enhanced by the many chefs trained at the Culinary Institute LeNôtre. It is fascinating to read Marie’s book and learn the history of Marie and Alain and his fabled father Gaston, and what led them to begin the Culinary Institute here in Houston. The LeNôtre family has a long tradition of excellence in food and pastry, and the fact that that tradition is being continued here is due in large part to the strength of the LeNôtre women. (Teresa Byrne-Dodge, Editor – Publisher, MY TABLE, Houston’s Dining Magazine)
It was a pleasure to work with the students of the Culinary Institute LeNôtre during my visit to Houston, and I was impressed by the school. I had the privilege to know legendary Chef Gaston LeNôtre, and Alain and Marie carry on the tradition of haute cuisine in a way that ensures we will always have new chefs being trained with high standards. Reading Appetites reminds me that there is no great food without great passion, and Marie is to be commended for telling her captivating story so passionately and honestly. (Daniel Boulud, Chef-Owner)
As the President of the Advisory Board of the Culinary Institute LeNôtre, I have worked intimately with Marie and Alain and their students for ten years. It was fascinating to learn more about them, legendary Chef Gaston LeNôtre, and the LeNôtre family dynamics that propelled Marie and Alain to found the Culinary Institute. Their understanding of the techniques, pioneered by Gaston, is made all the more wonderful by the way in which Marie and Alain share this knowledge through education and scholarships. What I admire about them both is their hands on approach with each and every student, which truly makes their school one of a kind. Appetites is filled with insight on the passions that film, food, and family can ignite. Marie’s own story is captivating and would entice any student to “dare to dream,” and chase it until it becomes reality! (Chef Charles Carroll, author, speaker, Olympian, Executive Chef of River Oaks Country Club, Vice President of World Chefs)

one of the greatest culinary families of France
By FPeterson
The name LeNôtre is famous worldwide. Gaston and Colette LeNôtre, created a food empire, one of the greatest culinary families of France. Their son and daughter-in-law, Alain and Marie, carried the tradition to the United States where they created the Culinary Institute LeNôtre in Houston, Texas. Marie’s book Appetites is an autobiography, a love story, a business history about the LeNôtre’s struggle in the new world, and a confessional about her interior struggle.
Living in Houston I have crossed paths with Marie over the past 20 plus years. Her book answers my many questions about how she and Alain came to make Houston their home. And, tells me of her life and interior turmoil, one she hid quite well behind her graceful charm. I think it is human nature to look on the beautiful or handsome among us and think they have a charmed life. Marie’s exterior beauty has not spared her or Alain great difficulties, which she reveals with refreshing candor.
Who would have dreamed she is a recognized film star in her native Greece making her first movie at the age of 13. Her mother pushed her to be a movie star almost to Marie’s ruin given the predators in the industry. After a winding path she eventually found Alain, a Godsend, and he, too, had a journey to find her. But how they met is delightfully 21st century.
How Marie balances her desire to put family first, business second, and her quest for artistic, intellectual and spiritual fulfillment into the mix makes for an interesting journey and easy read. The LeNôtre family saga is told with grace, as is Marie’s search for inner peace. I enjoyed it tremendously and heartily recommend Marie LeNôtre’ s Appetites.

I loved Marie LeNotre's book
By Jacqueline
I loved Marie LeNotre's book, Appetites! She is so honest in revealing herself and her experiences. I am so happy to know the truth. She reveals her story of self discovery and her journey of faith. I learned about her movie career, her challenges in her relationships with family and others, the hurt she experienced, her educational expansion and her spiritual growth. It was wonderful to learn about the LeNotre family and the disappointment Alain (Marie's husband) experienced from his father's decisions. And above all to learn how Marie and Alain forgave ......
Marie's book is a gift to her children and grandchildren! They are so lucky she wrote her memoir!
The book is so well-written! I was impressed with her writing! Beautifully written!

Fun & Fascinating!
By Jan A
I really enjoyed this book. Well-written and readable, it tells the story of Marie Lenôtre’s early acting career, how she met Alain Lenôtre and how they came to found the Culinary Institute Lenôtre. Full of intriguing anecdotes about life in Greece, France and the United States as well as numerous photos, the story moves along quickly with twists and turns as Alain and Marie face life’s problems and do their best to overcome them! Both Alain and Marie come across as very human in the book and I enjoyed learning more about them. My favorite story is the one about how they met – you’ll have to read the book to find out! A good read – fun and fascinating!
