About the Author
The Folger Shakespeare Library is a world-renowned research center on Shakespeare and on the early modern age in the West. Its conservation lab is a leading innovator in the preservation of rare materials. Its well-known public programs include plays, concerts, literary readings, family activities, and exhibitions, as well as numerous programs for students and teachers. The Folger also publishes the illustrated, completely re-edited Folger Editions of Shakespeare's plays, award-winning exhibition catalogs, and the journal Shakespeare Quarterly. The Folger opened in 1932 as a gift to the American nation from Henry Clay Folger and his wife Emily Jordan Folger. It is administered by a Board of Governors under the auspices of Amherst College, Henry Folger’s alma mater.

William Shakespeare was born in April 1564 in the town of Stratford-upon-Avon, on England’s Avon River. When he was eighteen, he married Anne Hathaway. The couple had three children—an older daughter Susanna and twins, Judith and Hamnet. Hamnet, Shakespeare’s only son, died in childhood. The bulk of Shakespeare’s working life was spent in the theater world of London, where he established himself professionally by the early 1590s. He enjoyed success not only as a playwright and poet, but also as an actor and shareholder in an acting company. Although some think that sometime between 1610 and 1613 Shakespeare retired from the theater and returned home to Stratford, where he died in 1616, others believe that he may have continued to work in London until close to his death.

No Fear Shakespeare Julius Caesar

As an older adult that is somewhat isolated I started the study of Shakespeare on my own with just a big book that had annotaions that were often more cofusing than enlightening. It was rewarding but it was like plowing through a field full of big rocks. I found reading two or three scenes of an act with No Fear Shakespeare and then reading the corresponding section of Asimov's Guide to Shakespeare great fun. No Fear explains the nuances of language and setting while Asimov gives rich insight to the characters and events that makes it so easy to remember the varied characters and plot twists.

I found this method makes Shakespeare infinitely more easy to not only get through but savor and enjoy. My plan is to get as much of No Fear Shakespeare as I can including all the plays that I have gone through so laboriously in the past and apply the No Fear/Asimov technique. I hope it works as well for you as it did for me.

The classic book report... with a twist.

We all know the story of Julius Caesar. The tragic event that led to chaos. Though it is a popular television and movie theme, we know it in large part due to Julius Caesar, William Shakespeare's famed play. It includes moving scenes such as Caesar's infamous "Et tu Brute", and Marc Antony's moving "Friends, Romans, countrymen, lend me your ears." This book, put together by Folger Shakespeare Library, helps to bring this story to life.

This book, about 239 pages total, features "explanatory notes conveniently placed on pages facing the text of the play." While these notes may not answer every question you might come up with, I believe they are very helpful to the average reader (such as myself). These pages also provide plenty of room for anyone who prefers to annotate, or write down thoughts, in their books.

Also featured on these pages is a scene summary for every scene. The scene summaries really helped me truly understand the Shakespearian language. I am very grateful I ordered this copy of Julius Caesar, since it has the tools necessary for the average reader to fully grasp what is happening. I picked it up right here on Amazon.com.

I can hardly find negative aspects to this edition. The best I can come up with is that the words and phrases noted are not already underlined or marked somehow by the publisher. (I know, not a big deal.) The story is great, a must-read for all history buffs or even the casual reader. All-in-all, if you are looking to read Julius Caesar, or just some Shakespeare to impress your friends or teachers with, check out the Folger Shakespeare Library's edition of Julius Caesar. I highly recommend it.

Not what I expected

This series is great for students. The books are divided into three sections: the first section is a kind of history of Shakespeare and his plays, the second section is the actual play, and the third section is more of the details of the play,i.e. where the story came from, how it is performed,how to directed the play. All in all it was a great for teaching the works of Shakespeare.

Dark and Delightful

Tortured Souls is a slightly unusual project from Clive Barker. The story was divided into six parts and each part was included with a figure from the Tortured Souls collection. These figures were brought to life by Todd McFarlane (creator of Spawn) and were based on the characters from the story.

We are taken to the decadent and putrid city of Primordium, which is ruled by cruel and corrupt leaders. No one man can stand up to them; no one, that is, until an assassin, Zarles Kreiger, is offered the opportunity. Before he has a chance, he must first be reshaped at the hands of a man named Agonistes. Legend has it that Agonistes was created by an exhausted God on the seventh day, and given terrible gifts. He shares these terrible gifts with those who come to him, offering either death or excruciating transformation. Through each chapter in the book we are introduced to a new tortured soul as the story of Primordium develops. The other characters are Talisac, a sick doctor working for the leaders of the city; his creation, Venal Anatomica; and his child, Mongroid.

This is classic Clive Barker, revealing his familiar obsessions with transformation of the flesh, sado-masochism, love, and sexuality throughout. From the tormented descriptions of the transformed, there is more than a little cenobite in them. Although the transformed are agents of revenge and death, there is also a surprisingly strong bond of love between Krieger, also known as the Scythe-Meister, and Lucidique. Despite their vile appearances to the rest of the world, they find beauty in each other and are perfect together as lovers and companions – a wonderfully taboo intimacy.

Barker has created a fantastic world in this novella, rich and full of vibrant characters. The only drawback with the novella is that it’s a novella. After reading this, I think of how much more could be told from this world. It sparks the imagination and leaves you wanting more. Unfortunately, it doesn’t seem that there will be a follow up, as this originally came out in 2001. There was a second series of the figures created by Barker and McFarlane which did not include any additional story and there was also talk of a film adaptation that never came to fruition.

Wish it was longer and more detailed.

I generally enjoy all of Clive's fiction, but this one struck me as a little bare bones. The writing was, of course, good, but it seemed like the condensed version of a much larger and more detailed novel. Everything needed to be more fleshed out. Better than 75% of the horror out there, but not up to Mr. Barker's stratospheric standards.

Very Disappointing -brief and crudely written character backgrounds to the toys :(

Just like reading a cardboard insert that might have accompanied the figure. And disappointing that there are only six of the 'figures' back-stories included. The artwork as good, but only B/W so disappointing for a book that costs that much and can be read in an hour and a half.

I had no idea such variety could be cooked in a crock pot!

I LOVE crock pot cooking because it saves time, it is not messy and is super flavourful. So when I found this book, it was like finding Pandora’s Box! Complete with nutritional values, each recipe has crisp instructions and even different variations of the same recipe. I had never imagined one can cook cheeseburgers and delicious desserts in crock-pots! What is more exciting about this book is that covers a variety of cuisines – Indian, Spanish, Italian and American. My current favourites from this book are Teriyaki Pork Roast and the magically quick Lime pie! Yum!

fun cooking experience

Anything satisfying and sumptuous in the eyes, all the more in the stomach is really attractive. This is actually the reason I picked this book. This book offers a very wide range of food choices. Recipes have been clearly and procedurally presented, which brings about an inviting cooking experience right home.

What I like most in this book is its good choice of content-the kinds of food we should prepare and a whole lot delicious desserts—note also that the recipes are easy to follow. Another thing, this book proves that the INSTANTS can be defied by spending a little time with easy to prepare yet healthy food.

Although there are lots of cook books available,right at the beginning Melody tells us
"What makes this book different from all the others is the easy to read directions that are in everyday language."

She certainly achieves that with lots of really nice recipes with a bonus section on great desserts.
Not surprisingly, there are lots of recipes using chicken and once you have cooked chicken in a crock pot you will be hooked.

When you have been out for the day and come home to the smells of one of these delightful meals it will make your day

The best-known essay of the collection, "Tradition and the Individual Talent," puts forth Eliot's theory of a literary tradition that comprises the whole of European literature from Homer to the present and of the relationship of the individual poet to that tradition. Good edition of The Sacred Woods

Firstly, if you want an e book, do not buy this one. When I bought this book, I didn't know that the The Sacred Wood is out of copyright and that you can find it free on the internet. Project Gutenberg or bartleby.com will have one.
This is the book in which "Tradition and the Original Talent", Eliot's most famous essay is found. Also, Hamlet and his Problems, in which the poet proposes the "objective correlative" approach to poetry and literature is there.
There are no pages in the books, just the "loc". The interface between table of content and the essay is excellent however, and it did save me some time.
I wouldn't consider this book the best one you could buy, but it is not bad either.

But really, do not buy this book - get it for free.

Good variety of recipes

Good variety of recipes, freezer meals are perfect for us to get a nice dish for any meal of the day. It can be prepared half in advance and the process of cooking is less complicated and time-saving. That’s really important. I wish it could have some photos of yummy dishes for me to make a choice easier plus it’s certain help I’m not so creative in serving the dish. Anyway, nice recipe book for all!

A wonderful series, new to me, which I now want to follow.

I really enjoyed this mystery set in London somewhere between 1924 and 1925, I couldn't tell exactly and the author never gave a definite date. This is the first novel I've read by Dolores Gordon-Smith and even though it appears to be the eighth of the series I had no problems easily picking up the relationship between the main characters. Chief Inspector William Rackham of Scotland Yard and his writer friend, Major Jack Haldean, attend an exhibition of church art and what happens in the street afterward sends all the parties on a complicated journey reaching far into the past to uncover secrets leading to murder. Betty Wingate isn't believed later when she reports finding a dead body in the cottage being rented by Signora Bianchi. Since there is no evidence of murder when the police investigate most people feel Betty was just having a bad dream. She convinces Bill Rackham and Jack Haldean to come to Wimbrell Heath in Surrey to investigate and prove that she wasn't delusional and there really was a body in the sitting room.

The artwork on the cover of this novel will give you the perfect clue as to the atmosphere you can expect to encounter. Ms. Gordon-Smith did a wonderful job of placing me firmly within her chosen time period using both description and dialogue. I enjoyed the close friend style of relationship between Bill and Jack with each of them having particular strengths necessary to solving the many mysteries they encountered in this case. Jack Haldean is the more intellectual of the two and carries the primary responsibility for interpreting the clues presented which lead to solving the case. The mystery plot was very well done with me wondering all the way through what the eventual solution would be. I was surprised at the major revelation; that was well and smoothly done without alerting me to that possibility before the book was finished. I will definitely have to begin collecting the other novels in this series. It is so very nice to find an author new to me in a genre I especially enjoy so that I look forward to reading more of their work.

This is a period mystery in the world of post WWI England in the 20s. The characters actually seem to be aware of working to make a living, unlike many mysteries of this time where the "young things" club, drink and lounge while chatting about to solve a crime.
A mystery writer, Jack, and a Scotland Yard inspector, Bill, are good friends who work together well while trying to solve a mystery involving missing bodies and people who really aren't who you think they are. The clues spring up throughout the story as the plot gets thicker and more confusing. Altogether, this was a fine escape into another world where the people are enough different to be interesting yet enough the same under the skin as to understand motivations and feelings.
If you haven't read the other books in the series, you shouldn't have a problem. This stands on its' own, although I am eager for the next book to come along.

Brilliant British mystery!!!

Dolores does it again!!! And so does Jack ... When I read one of Dolores's books I always feel like I've just stepped into Masterpiece Mystery on PBS. If you love British mysteries, then follow Jack Haldean through any one of his stories. Dolores always selects wonderful backdrops for her books and then weaves a truly great tale in that glamorous 20's style. In this story, Jack and his Chief Inspector friend Bill Rackham are reluctantly thrown into the art world when a dead body turns up missing. But leave it to Jack and Chief Inspector Rackham to follow the twists and turns and take us on a whirlwind tour complete with a cast of characters Agatha Christie would be proud of. As they say across the pond - "Brilliant".

Needed a quick reference for some Asian food. Picked this book because I love, love did I say love Egg Rolls and this book has a Ton of Roll recipes. I am going to make the Dragon Roll tonight. I have never tried dumplings but I am inspired now with the great Photo guides that are in here. It took the fear out of making them. All in all a great and easy to follow recipe book.

About the Author
Sarah Spencer lives in Canada with her husband and two children. She describes herself as an avid foodie who prefers watching the Food Network over a hockey game or NCIS! She is a passionate cook who dedicates all her time between creating new recipes, writing cookbooks, and her family, though not necessarily in that order! Sarah has had two major influences in her life regarding cooking, her Grandmother and Mama Li. She was introduced to cooking at an early age by her Grandmother who thought cooking for your loved ones was the single most important thing in life. Not only that, but she was the World’s Best Cook in the eyes of all those lucky enough to taste her well-kept secret recipes. Over the years, she conveyed her knowledge and appreciation of food to Sarah. Sarah moved to Philadelphia when her father was transferred there when Sarah was a young teenager. She became close friends with a girl named Jade, whose parents owned a Chinese take-out restaurant. This is when Sarah met her second biggest influence, Mama Li. Mama Li was Jade’s mother and a professional cook in her own restaurant. Sarah would spend many hours in the restaurant as a helper to Mama Li. Her first job was in the restaurant. Mama Li showed Sarah all about cooking Asian food, knife handling, and mixing just the right amount of spices. Sarah became an excellent Asian cook, especially in Chinese and Thai food. Along the way, Sarah developed her own style in the kitchen. She loves to try new flavors and mix up ingredients in new and innovative ways. She enjoy cooking with her slow cooker and finding ways to make life easier while feeding your loved one with flavorful and healthy meals. She is also very sensitive to her son’s allergy to gluten and has been cooking gluten-free and paleo recipes for quite some time. Rugby and Roll-ing

Love Sarah Spencers books, I would love to have worked with Mama Li to have gained all this knowledge and of course taste all the food. I feel a little silly as I am an avid cook and didn't know spring rolls were made with rice flour, which means I can have them (and have made them) as I a gluten intolerant. I made sooooo many of these at the weekend for a party to watch the rugby and they went in a FLASH! Meat and veggie ones all delicious. The favorite hot ones were Po Pia Thot (I made them in rice wrappers even though they're egg rolls in the book and they were really really good. I also made cold rolls for later on in the day - the avocado and mandarin were superb. Everyone is raving about them and it looks like I am going to be making them for every match now.
