Addie Baum is the youngest daughter of Jewish immigrants. Addie's eldest sister Betty lives alone and works at a department store. Her other sister, Celia, works in a shirt factory. Addie loves school, but her parents want her to quit so that she can get a job and help pay the rent. Celia, however, manages to talk their parents into allowing Addie to attend one year of high school.

Addie begins going to the local settlement house after school. The settlement house is a place where immigrants can learn basic skills, such as speaking and reading English, sewing, and cooking...

Excellent summary and analysis on "The Boston girl" by Anita Diamant. This summary and analysis only takes about 20 minutes to read and covers all the aspects or everything you need to know about the book. The book not only provides an excellent summary, but also provides a perfect analysis of the themes, tone, and pretty much analyses the authors style.

Good analysis!

I really like this, the analysis is straight and on point, it is sectioned perfectly and different subheadings for easy navigation. There are no grammar mistakes, spelling mistakes which I noticed. The analysis and the summary is very good, it also talks about themes too. What I found really interesting is that the author also talks about religion as well and times and the influence that has on the book.

For my assignment I had to choose a book and explain it in a bit of detail and I decided to take the dive and buy this and it has really helped alot for its cheap price I couldn't make it any better.

Good buy and great analysis, helped me really well and I would recommend it to anyone looking for some quick information and writing points.

A great summary of a wonderful story

Anita Diamant's The Boston Girl is a wonderful coming-of-age novel told in the first person by the main character, Addie Baum. Addie's granddaughter wants to know how Addie became the woman she is. Addie tells her about all the experiences that shaped her life, starting in 1915, when she was a 15 year-old girl living in North Boston with her Russian immigrant parents.

This Instaread summary touched on all those important moments in Addie's life. She's a smart young girl with a wonderful sense of humor and a great sense of compassion. A very likeable character the reader wants to root for. By the end, you feel you've made the 70 year journey with her. If you don't have the time to read the whole book, get this Instaread summary. It includes all the important characters and has a well-written analysis at the end. I really enjoyed reading it and learning about Addie's life and finding out just what made her the woman she became.

I've become a fan of these summaries for both fiction and non-fiction. They are inexpensive and give a concise overview of a title. I was curious about The Boston Girl and look forward to reading the full book.

About the Author
George Bernard Shaw (26 July 1856 – 2 November 1950) was an Irish playwright and a co-founder of the London School of Economics. This edition misses the point

With Shaw's plays, the point is in the preface. In the case of Androcles and the Lion, the preface is Shaw's disquisition on Christianity -- he explains it and the Gospels, in his inimitable way -- for over a hundred pages. The preface to Androcles and the Lion is one of Shaw's masterpieces...and is MISSING from this edition. Could it possibly be that this is because those putting this travesty of Shaw's work out do not want Christian readers seeing Shaw's explanation?

the story sets a scene of serenity, but later the plot thickens and complications trouble androcles and his lion friend, but old friends remain friends, and it is their friendship that saves them in the end.

Sanctity of forced conversions

You can count on Shaw to depict conversion like this: there is a big fighter coming along and shaking you up until he converts you. Later on, we call the man a saint. It is outrageous, and funny. It is also mainly true: Europe was converted to christianity more by the will of kings and armies than by the internal musings of the population. Shaw has an explanation for miracles too. I do not think you need to read the preface to get the gist of what he says. Most of the prefaces of his plays are long, interesting and dated. There is no preface in this edition. Shaw makes his philosophical positions very clear in his work, for instance in the Preface of Mrs. Warren's Profession he says that he had "no respect for popular morality, no beief in popular religion, no admiration for popular heroics."
But you do not have to share Shaw's views to enjoy the plays. Nowadays, you can like a cartoon from the NewYorker without betraying what you belive in, or enjoy any humorist you see on TV. We laugh because there is some truth behind what the humorist says. Usually, we don't change our political or religious views because of it.
Enjoy the play. If you want to know more about what Shaw believed in, buy more books. Live a little. This is fun, you'll never forget Androcles and his wonderful lion.

Great old world witch hunt

Eben Hollow has a great old-world horror feel to it, with its quaint village set next to a gnarled forest of dread, inhabited by a mythical goat-man who preys on those who stray from the path. There is also a nasty witch who is intent on extending her rule. Meanwhile the townfolk must make a living and raise their families. The town hero is The Elkmaster, who has pit himself as a holy soldier against the evil denizens of the forest.

The atmosphere is great here, and there is the everpresent suspense of the devil always lurking close at hand. The grisly methods of the witch and her henchman are fairly graphic, but the table is set in a battle of good vs evil. So far, evil has the upper hand. Can the Elkmaster and the good people of Eben Hollow prevail? The characters are very enjoyable, and everything is perfect, down to the speech of the characters. A fun read, for sure, and I wished it were longer.

Bravo. A very powerful and entertaining depiction of the "age old" theme of conflicting Good and Evil. The characters are complex and interact in a very interesting manner. Each character has a signifigant philosophy and energy that contributes to the overall story line and eventual outcome. The authors have successfully interwoven vivid background with energetic, sardonic and anectotal characters to reveal an interesting fabric with substance and encouragement for every real life challenge. This is a "must read". You will not be able to put this book down once you enter "The Village of Eben Hollow".

May Be Worth Checking Out

Some of the recipes in this collection sounded workable and quite tasty (I haven't actually tried any yet).

I was a bit disappointed though to see a heavy reliance of protein powder being added to the recipes, throughout. I had hoped for at least a few that relied completely on whole foods as opposed to these powders. Yes, some protein powders are quite well balanced nutritionally but they still are a concentrated source of several types of ingredients. I always prefer using natural "whole" foods, in any recipes, if at all possible.

worth a look though, if you prefer making your own meal replacement bars and shakes and don't mind the addition of protein powders.

Though I wasn't very keen on meal replacements but my busy schedules and gaining fat day by day. I has to look for alternatives. I chose to read this book and yes the meal replacement recipes have really caught my fancy and am very satisfied with them. They are not only tasty but very filling and satisfying too. Not for beginners.

This book is not for beginning fermenters. Several bits of fermenting information are missing in the ebook. There is no o mention of keeping foods submerged in the brine., no mention of brine either. Burping is also not talked about in this ebook. The least of my criticisms would be the lack of checking the spelling before the submission of this ebook.
