A practical book that helps to deal with our hectic everyday life

Yep, this book is definitely for me. With three small children, long hours working husband, my own career and a dog! I'm always looking for ways to improve our nutrition despite the crazy, busy schedule. The book provides you with carefully assembled lists of items needed, food ingredients, shopping tips and the delicious recipes. It saves me time on thinking, planing, shopping and cooking, which gives me a little bit more time for family quality time or just for myself. I want to thank the author for a practical book that helps to deal with our hectic everyday life.

With a bit of planning you can really save time and make life a little easier :) The recipes sound great and there are pictures of most of the meals which is a nice touch. About the Author
Sharon Kegerreis is co-author of two previous books on Michigan wine, one of which was a 2008 Michigan Notable Book. She is passionate for Michigan and enjoys outdoor and travel adventures and gardening. Sharon grew up in Charlevoix with a big apple tree in the backyard. For more than a decade, she has lived in Chelsea with her family, where she has been working hard to grow apple trees on her unruly five acres.

Sharon Steffens has been actively involved in the apple industry since the 1960s. She picketed apple juice processors in the 1970s and became involved in state and national women agricultural organizations. The Steffens family settled in west Michigan in the 1800s.

Dog food is not as complicated as "experts" say!

I have tried most of the recipes in Dinner for Dogs for my two mixed breed, female dogs. They love this food so much that they dance in the kitchen when it is time to feed them. Truthfully, fixing meals is not as convenient as scooping kibble from a bag, or simply opening a can. However, the extra work is worth the effort to feed my girls real food.

I previously purchased the best commercial dog food that I could find. I always thought street dogs, as my girls once were, had iron stomachs. They were unable to properly digest the commercial food, no matter what I tried. They went through problems with loose bowels, burping, and flatulence. Now, the problems are all gone.

I gave this recipe book 4 stars because, while the recipes are excellent, I feel that the author's instructions involve a lot of unnecessary work. Many recipes say to cook meat in one pan, veggies in another, and grain in yet another pot. I don't do this. I brown the meat, then add grains, veggies, and water as necessary to cook the meal. Perhaps a later edition could simplify the cooking instructions. I also do not finely chop the vegetables because my girls are perfectly happy to eat vegetable chunks. I do not form food into balls, either, as this is more work. I just mix it up and dish it out. As far as my dogs are concerned, it is all good. To make life easier, I double the recipes now, and freeze some meals for another day.

The bottom line for me is happier, healthier dogs with these recipes. I feel confident that anyone can fix their own dog food using this book, and their dogs will benefit from this.

I highly recommend Dinner For Dogs!

My 7 year old havanese loves many of these nutritional recipes, the home made kibble especially. While I never thought I would make my own dog food, Henrietta Morrison's recipes have simplified the process. Our dog Finn used to have drippy and stained eyes, now that I have improved his diet with Dinner For Dogs his eye condition has greatly improved! I love the book and I think everyone who owns a dog should purchase it!

This book has a lot of good ideas on how to balance a homemade diet for your dog. The only thing I wish it would have mentioned is how much food in quantities like cups and tablespoons per 100 calories. Some of this information I have seen elsewhere, but this book really brings the information together in a helpful format and is very user friendly. This is sure to be a constant kitchen companion in keeping my dogs health and diet on track.

Incomplete recipes and instructions

While the recipes were interesting, there were no processing times given for canning. Some measurements were also incomplete. While this might not be an issue for someone with experience in canning, this would be a serious issue for a beginner. Especially when pressure canning.

In reading the book I didn't even finish as there were mistakes or incomplete directions in each of the recipes I read. It appears the recipes will be good but this book was too hastily made available and needs *major* editing!

Can Someone Be Blamed?

Irwin says that evil is real. After finishing this play, where a family moves from one death through to another, while hearts and spirits are broken or manipulated, the presence of evil does lurk. There is an element of greed which permeates The Secret Rapture, which may be simplified as the downward spiral of one woman, whose spirit and heart are piece by piece removed by her closed people.

I liked this because Hare writes women characters wondefully, and the heroine, named Isobel is a sesnitive soul inundated by the mood of the day. Almost helplessly she sees her world up-turned, not sure if it is meant to be or she's simply passive and afraid.

Hare also creates in the characters of Marion, Isobel's sister, and Tom, Marion's husband, two genuinely deceptive or deceived people. Marion is scary, and Tom is somewhat limp, loving Jesus throughout much of the play. They represent the powerful and power hungry and the righteous, respectively. There are several scenes when I wanted Isobel to lash out furiously at Marion, who arrogantly advances through the world, unmoved by those troubled by it.

This is a heavy play. One that sets damage at the forefront and features people who break and are unbreakable.

David Hare is an amazing writer and this play is one of his best!A captivating storyline that touched emotions that I never knew I had and left me pondering on life and how vunerable we all are!When a play leaves an impression on you,whether good or bad(and in this instance good) you can be sure that the writer is damn good at their job and David Hare sure is!

Terrific Theatre from the '80s

"The Secret Rapture" is a stunning piece of drama. Not only does the play portray the alarming effects of Thatcherism, it creates its own world of distinct and unique characters. Building upon the theme that "good people bring out the worst in us," Hare presents a passionate work that never breaks down into melodrama yet wrenches the heart and forces readers and viewers alike to rethink ideas of faith in goodness and in all religions, spiritual and material. Intense and brilliant.

David Bez's jolly book encouraging healthy, inexpensive, quick at-your-desk made lunches is really well thought out.

Bez is, as he tells us, not a chef, but he is from Italy, loves food, and works in `creative'. He is also a father, and cares about eating fresh, in season, delicious quality food, both for himself and his small ones. And he has limited time for lunch, taken at his desk. He has chosen the option to prepare a variety of fresh salads, which can be quickly put together in less time than it takes to queue in the local supermarket for a sad sandwich

His art director background is written all over the great presentation, and excellent design of this book.

The recipes are divided into the four seasons, and what is easily available. Some of it involves being a little thoughtful the night before, and cooking a few extra vegetables, grains, pulses (or, okay for those of you that eat the other stuff, putting aside some of the flesh) to become part of your lunch salad.

Forget lettuce, tomato cucumber; tomato, cucumber lettuce; cucumber tomato, lettuce and on, and on, Bez will have you happily assembling all sorts of goodies, - I advise a quick `look inside' the book to whet your imagination, but a few recipes I salivated for at random - yellow pepper, broccoli, chilli and coconut cream; goat's cheese, kale, cucumber and tomatoes; cavalo nero, avocado and sprouted beans.

I can hear those flesh eaters grumbling.............fear not, there is plenty for you. What Bez does is to define each recipe as being Omnivore, Pescatarian, Vegetarian, Vegan or Raw.

Obviously the omnivore is for the everything including animal eater , the pescatarian fish eater and the rest, the vegetarian eats nothing which had a face, but does include dairy or egg, the vegan recipes contains no ingredient from an animal - and the raw will always be an option which is not only vegan but had no heating applied - so for example, it could include sprouted pulses, but not cooked pulses, as protein source (he doesn't include sushi in raw, it belongs, properly, to pescatarian)

But what is absolutely BRILLIANT is that for every recipe he gives an adapted option for one of the other groups. There ARE quite a few omnivore or pescatarian recipes, but only 10 of the omnivore or pescatarian main recipes have an adaptation which is the other flesh based one.

And for those on the most restricted diets of all (the raw food eaters) there are a lot of recipes! So this lovely book gives options for all

Not only are the recipes themselves tempting and delicious, but I particularly love the THOUGHT which Bez has put into it. You can search yourself a recipe in different ways...the index helpfully will give page numbers for, for example, Vegan Main, Vegan alternative and the like - and there is the search by ingredient. Got some pak choi you want to use up? No problem.

Bez `deconstructs' the layers of his salad, so every recipe will have a base (generally a salad leaf, but it might be a grain), then vegetables and or fruit, a protein component, toppings - nuts, seed, and the like, fresh herbs, and finally the dressing - which might be vinaigrette style, pesto style, or creamy style - some 25 varieties of dressing.

And if you run out of ideas and need some more he even has a salad blog called Salad Pride, where you can tiptoe through the garden gathering more goodies for lunch and breakfast!

I love a good salad

I love a good salad. Seriously. It floats my boat! Which is hilarious since I'm the farthest thing from a "healthy food person." Haha! But I was more than happy to review this book full of salad recipes to give me some new and fresh ideas!

So here's what I love about this book:
1.) The pictures!!! - There's a picture for EVERY SALAD. All 260 of them! I love that! The best way to get me interested in a new recipe is to let me see what the finished product looks like.
2.) Each one has a homemade dressing recipe. - And most of them are pretty simple, involving mostly items I already have in the pantry or fridge!
3.) Its divided by season! - Most cookbooks are divided by main dish, side dish appetizer, etc. or by meat recipe, vegetarian, vegan, etc. But this one is by season! How amazing is that! And since its a salad book, full of produce, it makes PERFECT sense!
4.) Every recipe is labeled - Pescatarian, Vegan, Vegetarian, Omnivore, Raw... You can easily see what each recipe is! That makes it so easy to go find what you'd like! Also, each recipe has an "alternative." For example, The Roasted Eggplant, Chickpeas, & Pomegranate salad recipe is Vegan, but if you replace the soy yogurt with Green yogurt, it becomes Vegetarian.

This book is beautiful and well thought out! Definitely a must for any salad lover!

Absolutely delicious and amazing...

SUMMARY:
Wanting to eat healthy, fresh food for lunch every day, author David Bez set out on a quest to make a new, interesting, appetizing and healthy salad for lunch each day that could easily be made at work. With a base, proteins, vegetables, fruits, dressings and toppings, he not only succeeded but enticed his employees to follow suit, creating seasonal, easy to prepare succulent salads. Breaking the mold that salads are only sides and rather boring, Salad Love embraces a healthier lifestyle with easy-to-follow salad recipes and gorgeous accompanying pictures. Yum!

A PENNY FOR MY THOUGHTS:
Wow. I absolutely love this book! Not only from a healthier approach to eating but the motivation and success achieved with the simple approach to doing it. Though not a chef nor photographer, the recipes pictures are beautiful, taken just before the salad is devoured. I so appreciate the seafood used is sustainable and the other items fresh. Agreeing with his statement that eating healthy should not be painful but a treat to ourselves, this book is right on target. With glossy, sturdier pages, alternatives to change the type of salad (i.e: vegan to omnivore), salads specific to seasons, basic directions for preparation of a salad, easy to add protein ingredients and the salad finally being given its own deserved accolades, Salad Love hit the mark for me. Though not necessarily for everyone, I plan on purchasing several copies for friends and family. Well done! Salad on!!

Great Beginnings

I am 73 years old. I know how to cook. Or thought I did, right up to the present. Now I am not able to stand at the stove. For the last year or so, my nephew and I, existed on TV dinners and other microwavables.

Recently, I realized that I missed cooking. So I decided to get a crock pot. I quickly discovered that a whole new way to think about cooking would be necessary. So I purchased this book. The tips and procedures she includes are helpful , but I never felt she was talking down to me. Her recipes are easy to understand, but complicated enough to be great as written and also will be easy to adapt in order to reproduce personal favourites.

I would recommend this book to anyone new to slow cooking, regardless of their level of cooking expertise.

Has good recipes. I think its simple enough for a beginner. Good book and well written. I was able to open it on my mobile phone so its compatible with mobile devices. Some books look terrible on mobile apps.

Outstanding study

Most romantic ecocriticism seems more to me about wish fulfillment than actuality. Ecocriticism is a way of making Romanticism central to the concerns of today. This book, by contrast, situates Romanticism within ecocriticism,but never in a facile way. The materiality of nature is an invitation to subjectivity in this study. The readings are outstanding, the thinking and research absolutely first rate.

Bare Bones

Contains Songs of Innocence and Experience and The Book of Thel only. Text is poorly formated; the line breaks are all screwed up. Blake is something you really really need to see on a page so do yourself a favor and buy a physical copy...ideally with the beautiful etchings which Blake melded with the text.

Auguries of Innocence "to see the world in a grain of sand" is missing in the edition which I could see online - I bought it as a gift and my friend told me that the pages numbers do not match the description and the index of first lines - which puts the poem on a page that is not there. There are fewer pages than described

Difficult to navigate. Really bad formatting.

I am not much of a poetry fan but have always loved the writings of William Blake. Here is a free version of some of his works. It is readable, and the fact that it is free prevents me from complaining too much.

The formatting is terrible. There is no table of contents. There are no hyperlinks. These problems make it difficult to know what exactly is in the book, and it makes it hard to find what you are looking for. As far as I can tell this collection contains the entirety of Songs of Innocence and Experience and a few other poems. Also there are few line breaks. An 8 line stanza is often seen as a single paragraph with semicolons separating the original lines. With any other poet this would make the book unreadable, but Blake's words are so rhythmic and clear that you can easily read them out loud or silently even when formatted poorly on the page. Some reviewers have complained that there is different text and/or missing poems when compared to other versions. I won't argue with them because, although I have read Blake several times, I am no expert.

So if you have to read Songs of Innocence and Experience right now and don't have any money, go ahead and get this book. You will enjoy it. But in the long run it is much better to get a better formatted version - preferably a hardbound volume that will look beautiful on your shelf and provide satisfying poetic readings for years to come.
